Our History
EMI Africa was formed after Emily spent 5 months volunteering at a children's home in South Africa. The children's home was filled with incredible joy and excitement, yet the children were often bored. Emily soon found that the children absolutely loved books but did not have daily access to them. She started reading to the children ever
EMI Africa was formed after Emily spent 5 months volunteering at a children's home in South Africa. The children's home was filled with incredible joy and excitement, yet the children were often bored. Emily soon found that the children absolutely loved books but did not have daily access to them. She started reading to the children every night and their love of reading grew. There was a great need for new books, so when Emily returned to America she started to gather donated books to address this need. Soonthereafter, EMI Africa was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization raising awareness of literacy needs and providing books to children in South Africa and Uganda.

Our Mission
To provide books, activity packets and educational materials to under served children in South Africa and Uganda. We focus specifically on children in orphanages, refugee camps and foster care who do not have access to these materials and who desire them.
